Ago Luberg (born 27 March 1983) is an Estonian computer scientist and educator at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), working in the fields of computer science, artificial intelligence, and computing education.[1] Supervised by Tanel Tammet, he authored the 2021 work "Consolidation of Crowd-Sourced Geo-Tagged Data for Parameterized Travel Recommendations", and is known for research on tourism recommender systems using crowd-sourced geo-tagged data as well as work on automated assessment tooling for programming courses. Luberg has been featured in Estonian media as an expert commentator on the impact of artificial intelligence on work and education, and has also been cited as the programme director for TalTech's informatics and artificial intelligence bachelor's-level curriculum, which was launched to train AI specialists for the Estonian labour market.[2,3]

Education

Luberg studied at Tallinn University of Technology. In 2021, he defended a doctoral dissertation on consolidating crowd-sourced geo-tagged data for parameterized travel recommendations, supervised by Tanel Tammet.[4]

Career

ERR Novaator has described Luberg as the head of Tallinn University of Technology’s Applied Artificial Intelligence group (rakendusliku tehismõistuse töörühm).[5] He has worked at TalTech in teaching and curriculum leadership roles, including as an informatics programme lead/manager in university communications and national media.[2,6] In 2025, Tööstusuudised.ee quoted Luberg in connection with launching TalTech’s informatics and artificial intelligence bachelor’s curriculum, describing a shortage of higher-level specialists able to develop and evaluate AI systems.

Research

ERR Novaator has reported that Luberg's doctoral work developed and evaluated algorithms for recommending sightseeing destinations using crowd-sourced geo-tagged data, and discussed his work with tourism recommendation systems, including designs and data integration for systems such as Sightsmap / Sightsplanner.[4]

Teaching and educational tooling

Luberg has contributed to engineering tooling used in programming education at TalTech, where TalTech's public technical documentation for automated testing infrastructure credits him as an author and copyright holder.[7]

Awards and recognition

In 2022, Luberg was nominated for Aasta õppejõud (Lecturer of the Year) at Estonia's national Aasta õpetaja awards.[8,9]

Selected works

Selected works include "Sightsmap: Crowd-Sourced Popularity of the World Places" by T. Tammet, A. Luberg, and P. Järv, published in Information and Communication Technologies in Tourism in 2013. Additionally, A. Luberg authored "Sights, titles and tags: mining a worldwide photo database for sightseeing," which appeared in Proceedings of WIMS 2020 in 2020.
