Andrey Andreevich Leman (3 October 1940 – 5 November 2012) was a Soviet mathematician and computer scientist known for the development of the Weisfeiler Leman graph isomorphism test together with Boris Weisfeiler, published in 1968.[1] In his youth, he successfully participated in math Olympiads, later becoming a jury member for the Moscow Mathematical Olympiad in the 1960s and co-editing a book for the preparation of future olympiad participants.[3,4] He contributed to the first Soviet database, INES, which was used ubiquitously across the USSR and earned him the USSR Council of Ministers Prize.[5] He also contributed to the chess computer Kaissa, which won the world's first chess tournament between computer programs in 1974.[2]
In 1990, Leman emigrated to the United States, where he continued to work as a software developer. During the 1990s, he contributed to Cuneiform OCR, which was utilized by notable companies including Oracle, IBM, and Samsung.
