Pan Yunhe (Chinese: 潘云鹤; pinyin: Pān Yúnhè; born November 4, 1946, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China) is a Chinese specialist in artificial intelligence and geographic information systems, affiliated with Tongji University and Zhejiang University, and a member of the Chinese Communist Party.[2,1] He served as President of Zhejiang University from May 1995 to June 2006, succeeding Lu Yongxiang and preceding Yang Wei. From June 2006 to June 2014, he was the Executive Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering under presidents Xu Kuangdi and Zhou Ji. He later served as Director of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference from March 2013 to March 2018, succeeding Zhao Qizheng and preceding Lou Jiwei.

Early life

A native of Zhejiang Province, Pan graduated and did his undergraduate study at Tongji University in Shanghai, and received a master's degree from his postgraduate study at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou. He is a professor of computer science at Zhejiang University, where he took office as president in 1995 and served from 1995 to 2006. He became a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997 and was appointed vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering on June 7, 2006.[3]
