Zhou Zhihua (Chinese: 周志华, also written Zhou Zhi-Hua; born November 20, 1973 in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China) is a Chinese computer scientist and Professor of Computer Science at Nanjing University. He serves as the Standing Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory for Novel Software Technology and Founding Director of the LAMDA Group.[1] His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data mining, and his academic webpage is located at http://cs.nju.edu.cn/zhouzh/.
Biography
Zhou Zhi-Hua received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from Nanjing University in 1996, 1998, and 2000, respectively, all with the highest honor. He joined the Department of Computer Science & Technology of Nanjing University as an assistant professor in 2001, and was promoted to associate professor in 2002 and full professor in 2003. He was appointed as Cheung Kong Professor in 2006.
Research
Zhou is known for significant contributions to ensemble learning, multi-label learning, and learning with partial supervision (semi-supervised learning, multi-instance learning, etc.). He has authored two books and published more than 150 scientific articles in premium journals and conferences. According to Google Scholar, his h-index is 102. He also holds 18 patents.
Services
Zhou founded the Asian Conference on Machine Learning (ACML), and served as an Advisory Committee member of IJCAI (2015-2016), General co-chair of ICDM'2016, and Program Committee Co-Chair of the IJCAI'2015 Machine Learning track, among other roles.[5,2,3,4] He served on the editorial boards of many journals, including as Executive Editor-in-Chief for Frontiers of Computer Science.[5,2,3,4] He is or was Chair of CCF-AI (2012-), chair of the IEEE CIS Data Mining Technical Committee (2015-2016), and chair of the CAAI Machine Learning Technical Committee (2006-2015). Additionally, he founded LAMDA, a famous research group in machine learning and data mining in China.[1]
Awards and Honors
Zhou received various awards and honors, including the National Natural Science Award of China (a premium science award in China), the IEEE ICDM Outstanding Service Award, the PAKDD Distinguished Contribution Award, the IEEE CIS Outstanding Early Career Award, and the Microsoft Professorship Award.[6,7,8] He is a Fellow of the ACM, AAAS, AAAI, IEEE, IAPR, IET/IEE, and CCF.[8]
